Representatives of KAT, PLGME, Textile and other trade bodies have demanded the incumbent government to declare Korangi Industrial Area as calamity-hit, empower the disaster management cell to deal with natural disasters and compensate the affectees.

The second largest industrial zone of Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, with petroleum industry, leather industry, textile industry and different universities, is presenting a view of destruction. It is considered as industrial hub of Pakistan as employment of over one million labour force is linked to this area. The area is going towards destruction with every passing day as far as infrastructure over here is concerned. Recent rains have unveiled the administrative weakness of the present regime.

In the previous days, rains adversely affected the business activities there but the recent rains have further exacerbated the situation as labourers had to get stuck in the area due to deluge from Malir stream while traffic police, Rangers or representatives of the provincial government were found to be nowhere to assist them. They had to exercise their own means to tackle the situation and reached their homes very late. In view of this situation, the representatives of associations have demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan to take notice of the worsening situation, declare Korangi Industrial Area as calamity-hit area and facilitate the affectees.
